Its Been A Long Week
This week was worst than last week at work. I came in after my 2 days off, only to find out that both of the supervisors had given notice. This is just 5 days after the Beverage Manager and my strongest Room Service team member were fired. So now, not only do I have to deal with and idiot as a boss, it is down to just me and the other Restaurant Manager to run everthing and cover all the shifts and we are about to go into one of the busiest weekends of the year. Whatever. I'm so fucking over it. I realized I have made a huge mistake trying to move back into F & B at this hotel. I told hubby, who is also unhappy with his job, to look outside of Florida. We may not even resign our lease that is up soon. I don't want to start all over again somewhere else, but I don't think I can go on this unhappy with my job. Life is too short to suffer 65 hours a week. No paycheck is worth that...

I bet you could do really well looking in New Orleans. They're begging for people to get the city back up again. Particularly the hotel industry and really all types of businesses like that. Because people are spread all over the country and took jobs elsewhere, they're having a hard time finding people to go back to work. They've been having job fair after job fair down there. You know things are desperate when places like Burger King are offering $6,000 signing bonuses. Finding lodging might be difficult, but I know some of the hotels are putting up workers in their own hotels until they can find permenant residences. But where we live there are just tons of houses for sale. Anyone who ever wanted to move has their house up for sale. It would be about a 45-60 min. commute. Anyway, it might be a way into a lucrative area.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the Baton Rouge hotels aren't looking for more workers. They've had 100% capacity for 6+ weeks now and I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't continue for many more months from now. Everywhere here has help wanted signs. I've never seen anything like it. You drive down the street and nearly every business has help wanted signs out. However, you won't be able to find an apartment here. You'd nearly have to buy a house. Again, there are tons for sale. I do know of someone that has his house for sale, but it's only by word of mouth, so it hasn't been sold yet LOL He's an idiot.
Anyway, I would think there would be a lot of opportunity for the two of you in either New Orleans or Baton Rouge. Or possibly even Lake Charles. All those people there are displaced and they're trying to get that area going again. They've got a lot of ritzy hotels and casinos there to attract all the Texans.
Thanks girls. I know hubby is actively looking for a new job and I told him I am up for going anywhere. I had mentioned New Orleans or Baton Rouge to him, but the housing situation is what he was concerned about as well as pay. We'll see. As much as I am ready to get the hell out of here, we will probably be here at least through the beginning of next year.
Well, if you want me to do any looking around here for you let me know. I would think that the housing situation will be a little more normal in the next few months. People are learning they need to fish or cut bait, they can either move back to New Orleans or they need to start a new life elsewhere. Things are definately starting to settle down. I had a whole huge blog entry about it and my computer blipped or something and I lost it.
